Delivering Results to Employees

signing document

Once the correct policy for your workplace is created and tests are ethically conducted it’s important that results are delivered to employees in the correct manner. Any offending employees need to be addressed in the same way throughout your workplace, even though some employees may be better performers or more valuable to your organisation than others it’s important that you apply the same terms set out in your drug and alcohol policy for all employees to avoid any legal action with regards to discrimination.

For all positive results it’s important that a toxicologist cross examines the findings with any prescription medications that an employee may be taking, this will help rule out any false positive results that may arise. If it does become apparent that any prescribed medication may be providing the positive result then we can supply a Medical Review Officer (MRO) who is a qualified physician and therefore legally able to discuss the findings with your employee. The MRO will be qualified to interview your employee and see if there is any conflicting medication that hasn’t been previously declared. They will also provide your employee with a independent review of the results and make sure that they are not falsely accused of taking an illegal substance when they have simply been taking their prescription medication. In being a qualified physician the MRO is also able to check what prescribed medication is being taken with the employees GP.

The process of conducting a Medical Review in association with any positive findings helps protect your employees from wrongful accusation and omits any conflict with prescription medication from being disputed in the event of a legal dispute. The MRO is qualified and experienced in Interpreting test results and takes into account the employees current medical condition, medical history and even dietary intake to help accurately evaluate a positive result, they also have a good understanding of any legal issues associated with the testing process.
