In a world where work place drug testing has become ever more apparent, random drug testing will occur in almost all industries. This includes the public servants at the Department of Immigration and Border Protection. It has been reported that more than 2000 employees have been randomly drug tested in an effort to clamp down on safety, working standards and even potential corruption. It has been criticised that there has been a spike in workers performance.

A spokesman for the ‘DIBP’ has stated that 2087 staff members have undergone vigorous alcohol and drug testing, to ensure a high standards of personal integrity and professionalism.

The DIBP has expressed a real concern that staff members with an alcohol or drug habit could cause a compromise with the importation of illegal substances.
